East Renfrewshire Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Renfrewshire. The club was first formed in 1922.
The East Renfrewshire Golf Club course was founded on January 18th, 1922, with a design by James Braid, a renowned course architect and five-time Open winner; it was officially opened for play on May 12th, 1923. Since its inception, the course has undergone only minor enhancements, indicating the endurance and quality of Braid's original design principles.
This golf course employs Braid's philosophy of using the natural land features to their fullest, which often presents golfers with two playing options for holes—an easier approach and a more challenging one. The layout of the course includes features like winding glens, braes, burns, and a lake, which contribute to the technical diversity of the course.
An exhibition match on May 21, 1930, featured American Ryder Cup players Horton Smith and Leo Diegel, along with notable Scottish amateurs Tom Dobson and Duncan McCulloch. Edward, Prince of Wales, also played the course in the 1930s, though the visit was not officially recorded.
The course has been a venue for regional and national amateur championships, with club members such as Craig Watson and Paul McKellar, who both played for GB&I in the Walker Cup, among its noted competitors. The course par is set at 70, and the record score of 63 was set by David Orr in 1996.
Strategically situated 500 feet above sea level, the East Renfrewshire Golf Club provides expansive views over Glasgow and towards Ben Lomond and other mountains within the Loch Lomond National Park. The course is consistently rated as the number one course in Renfrewshire and is recognized for its layout and conditioning.
The East Renfrewshire Golf Club aims to offer both members and guests a quality golfing experience complemented by its facilities and a welcoming atmosphere. It encourages prospective members and visitors to embrace the golfing challenge and the amenities provided.
