Elland Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Yorkshire. The club was first formed in 1910.
Elland Golf Club was established in July 1910 in Elland, West Yorkshire, originating as a six-hole course before expanding to include nine greens. Throughout its initial years, the course underwent continual development, with land rented from founder member Mr. W H Ingham and the Clubhouse acquired for £140, including a Professional’s hut.
Various course improvements were made, including the introduction of electric lighting in 1920 and the construction of a Ladies' Room in 1921, with further land acquisitions and facilities updates shaping the course and club amenities over the decades. The first lady Captain was elected in 1913, and significant changes were implemented over the years, such as the decision to allow Sunday golf in 1937, despite initial restrictions.
During World War II, in response to the need for increased food production, part of the course was repurposed for agriculture, including sheep grazing and rye cultivation. Post-war, the membership of Elland Golf Club grew, and following the death of Mr. Arthur Wilkinson in 1960, the Club purchased the course, further expanding it after acquiring additional land in 1965.
Subsequent renovations to the Clubhouse were phased over several years starting in 1976, with the professional’s shop built first, leading to the complete replacement of the original structures by 1995. The course, designed to maximize the 40 acres of land, achieved a full complement of eighteen teeing grounds by 2000, although retaining the original nine greens.
In celebration of its centennial in 2010, members honored the Club's history and development. Located near Junction 24 of the M62, the mature nine-hole course with eighteen tees is noted for its flat terrain, easy walk, and challenges suitable for all skill levels across its 5480 yards.
