About: Fairfield Golf And Sailing Club

Fairfield Golf And Sailing Club is a members' golf club, in Lancashire. The club was first formed in 1892.

The Fairfield Golf Course was established following a meeting on November 11, 1892, involving individuals including Mr. W. Campbell, who was tasked with laying out the course and creating local rules. The course was designed on land rented from farmer Mr. Gallimore, with the greens being fenced to protect them from grazing cattle.

Notable events in the course's history include the hiring of Mr. Newhook as the Club Professional on August 14, 1892, and the hosting of its first club competition on May 13, 1893. Furthermore, the course witnessed its first inter-club match against Marple Golf Club on May 19, 1894, in which Fairfield emerged as the victor by 5 holes.
