Flempton Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Suffolk. The club was first formed in 1895.
Flempton Golf Club was established in 1895 on land that was part of the Hengrave Estate, laid out on a 34-acre plot to the left of the current entrance drive. The course's founding is linked to a Scottish officer from Gibralter Barracks who sought a landscape reminiscent of his homeland, but the formal club formation and first recorded committee meeting took place in the autumn of 1895 with a limited membership of 50.
The Clubhouse, built in 1905 by the club's first President, Sir John Wood, incorporated locally sourced timber and a style reflecting the Arts & Crafts movement with key features such as an open fireplace and a verandah facing the 9th green. Over time, modifications have been made to accommodate the needs of a growing membership while maintaining the building's traditional appearance.
In 1906, the Arbon Cottage was constructed to house the club's first greenskeeper-cum-professional-cum steward, with materials from the Culford Estate, and has since undergone renovations in 2020. Flempton Golf Club maintains a close relationship with Culford School and is the location of the Culford School Golf Academy.
J H Taylor, a five-time Open winner, was commissioned to redesign the Flempton course layout in 1906, resulting in a distinctive clover-leaf design with three loops returning to the clubhouse, which is still in place today across the 45-acre estate. The club is in the process of implementing a master plan for future development, devised by Martin Ebert of Mackenzie & Ebert, that respects Taylor's original design while enhancing the course's playability.
