Formby Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Lancashire. The club was first formed in 1884.
Formby was established in 1884; Willie Park created the original links layout in 1912, with alterations by Braid and Colt. Ian Jamison, past captain and archivist, told the Cookie Jar Golf Podcast (Ep. 345, Sep 2024): "Formby is replete with great little nuggets and funny stories and quirks. I think it's pretty strong in that sense."
Between 1884 and 1896 the club was fully mixed – "ladies had full run of the club. They decided they wanted to create their own club. They broke away and created Formby Ladies Golf Club, built their own clubhouse, had their own 18-hole golf course within the surrounds of ours. Works tremendously well." Harold Hilton, Hoylake-born and later secretary of West Lancashire, "played pretty much most of his golf here. He's on our boards on 34 occasions." Donald Steel re-modelled the course in the 1980s in response to coastal erosion.
