About: Glen Gorse Golf Club

Glen Gorse Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Leicestershire & Rutland. The club was first formed in 1933.

Glen Gorse Golf Course was established in 1933 by Mr J. E. White, who converted Woodside Farm into a golf course with an initial 9 holes ready for competition by Christmas that same year. By 1938, the course had expanded to 18 holes, but during World War II, land had to be cultivated for food production and mounds were added to prevent enemy aircraft from landing.

Post-war restoration took several years, with efforts to reseed and relay fairways, leading to a fully operational 18-hole course. In 1951, significant changes were made by the new club professional, and in 1955 members began the process of purchasing the club, which was completed in 1958 with the club's membership reaching 365.

Following a geologic survey in 1959, the course installed a water storage system and state-of-the-art sprinklers, improving course maintenance. The purchase of additional land in 1972 and 1980 allowed for course extensions, including new holes and the introduction of strategic features such as ponds and trees.

A memorial drinking fountain was installed in 1984 in remembrance of Tom Pollard, a key figure in the course's history. The course today is maintained by a members' collective, features challenging parkland play, and continues to develop close ties with county sports teams, while also hosting open competitions for visitors.

Glen Gorse Golf Club offers a Trial Membership for £300, which includes 24 rounds of golf. Trial members can enter Medals and Stableford Competitions and play reciprocal courses, subject to certain terms and conditions.

Booking rounds is available from 9:00 AM on weekdays and 12:00 PM on weekends, subject to competition availability. Trial members also receive a 5% discount on their bar card.
