About: Harburn Golf Club

Harburn Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Lothians. The club was first formed in 1923.

The Harburn Golf Course was established in 1925 at East Torphin Farm, situated 870 feet above sea level on the northern slope of the Pentland Hills. It is a heathland course featuring undulating terrain, a variety of tree species, and is adjacent to the Bog Burn.

The course was planned collaboratively by the directors and John Patrick, a professional golf club maker, course architect, and teacher, with George Paterson as the first greenkeeper. Harburn Golf Club Company Limited was registered in 1923, leading to the official opening of the course on 18 July 1925 by Lord Anderson.

By 1927, a clubhouse was constructed, and the course underwent numerous improvements over the years, including the purchase of the course in 1967. The 15th hole, known as "99" due to its original yardage, was later renamed "Question Mark" after being increased in length.

Challenges faced by the club included financial difficulties and a fire in 1962 that severely damaged the clubhouse. Despite these setbacks, the club made significant achievements, with renovations and extensions of the clubhouse and a ten-year plan initiated in 2006 to further develop the course.

In 1993, the course underwent major refurbishment and extension, while in 2004, the 11th and 12th holes were extended. The new layout was officially opened on 5 June 2004, with the ceremonial tee shot struck by Mike Kirk, a nine-time Club Champion.

Throughout the years, Harburn Golf Club has continued to evolve, with its course recognized as one of the notable golf courses in the Lothians area as of 2016. The course is supplemented with practice areas and a robust social calendar, catering to both competitive and social golfers.

Harburn Golf Club offers discounted green fees to its Access Members. Weekday green fees are £25 in the summer and £10 in the winter, while weekend green fees before 3pm are £30 in the summer and £10 in the winter. Weekend green fees after 3pm are £25 in the summer and £10 in the winter.
