Harwich And Dovercourt Golf Club

The Harwich and Dovercourt Golf Course was established in 1906 on thirty-three acres of the Garland Estate in Parkeston. Initial governance was provided by the first President, A. N. Garland, and the first Captain, E. Napier Clavering.

During the Second World War, the course was requisitioned by the army and integrated into the anti-invasion defenses, resulting in tank traps and pillboxes, remnants of which remain on the course. Post-war, members carried out significant reconstruction to restore the course to playability.

In response to the 1953 flood affecting the clubhouse and course, members received temporary playing rights at Colchester Golf Club while repairs were made. In 1964, the club secured the freehold of the land, and in 1967, a new clubhouse was constructed at a cost of £5022.

By 1970, the course saw a separation of roles, employing a dedicated greenkeeper due to the need for enhanced course maintenance. Further changes occurred in the 1990s with a significant civil engineering project by Anglian Water, which caused disruption, but the course was subsequently restored.

Expansion occurred in October 2001 with the acquisition of forty acres of land, allowing for the development of a practice ground. These additions broadened the capacity of the course to cater to more players and facilitate golf introduction programs.

Green fees are available after 3pm on Saturdays, 12pm on Sundays and 11.30am Monday to Friday. Please ring in advance to check course availability and ensure no competitions are being played.
