Helensburgh Golf Club

Helensburgh Golf Club was established in August 1893, with its initial 9-hole layout completed by October of the same year and approved by designer Old Tom Morris. By 1905, guided by club professional Tom Turnbull, the course was extended to 18 holes.

The course today is a par 69 spanning 6104 yards, and it holds a Standard Scratch Score of 70. The course record stands at a 62, set by junior member Simon Barras in 2005.

Notable developments include the purchase of the course and additional ground in 1978, with the extra land as yet unused but held in reserve for potential course expansion. Design modifications were made by James Braid in the 1920s, some of which remain in effect.

The history of the golf course is interconnected with significant personalities, including club founders such as Andrew Bonar Law who became Prime Minister, and prominent golfers like J Morton Dykes and Colin Dalgleish who have made their mark on the game both nationally and internationally. Gary Orr is another member whose professional career, beginning in 1988, achieved commendable success on the European Tour.

Thursdays may offer a 4-ball for the price of a three-ball. Shorter rounds of 11 holes are available for £29 per person.
