Henbury Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Gloucestershire. The club was first formed in 1891.
Henbury Golf Club was established in 1891 on Coombe Hill, with its golf course initially consisting of nine holes. The land was owned by John Harford, who also owned Blaise Castle, and the course was extended to eighteen holes shortly after its establishment.
An iron hut was erected in January 1893 to serve as The Golf House, with the present clubhouse being completed in 1959. The golf course underwent alterations during the Great War with its first two fairways turned into a wheatfield, leading to a period of restoration concluded in May 1920 with the reopening of the eighteen holes course, although with a different sequence of play.
In 1954, additional land was acquired to develop the current 3rd and 4th holes, while in 1973, the 14th hole was upgraded to a par 5. Notably, the 14th hole expansion crossed over a filled-in quarry that was once comparable in depth to the Avon Gorge and measured 150 yards by 100 yards.
The late 1990s brought significant investments exceeding £500K, which were utilized for constructing new tees, four new greens, and enhancements such as the 7th hole. These updates were a mix of member loans and a VAT rebate, contributing to the modern golf course's characteristics.
The white course spans 6001 yards with a course rating of 69.3, the yellow course measures 5716 yards rated at 67.9, and the red course is 5495 yards with a rating of 73.2. A prominent challenge of the course is its copious tree population, complemented by several tree planting schemes funded by members over the past half-century.
In 2022, a large wildflower display was introduced between the 13th and 16th holes to boost wildlife habitats and the environment. Notable players from Henbury's history include Malcolm Lewis, Nick Day, and the late Peggy Reece, all of whom have achieved prestigious golfing accomplishments.
