Hermitage Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Dublin. The club was first formed in 1905.
Hermitage Golf Club, established in 1905, is located in the Liffey Valley in Lucan, Co Dublin, and is noted for its secluded setting within a high population density area. Spanning 120 acres and featuring over 12,000 trees, the course maintains a parkland style and is less than 10 miles from Dublin's city center.
The course has a history of notable events, including hosting the Irish Amateur Close Championship in 1914, marking it as the first-ever parkland course to host the event, and later, the Irish Ladies Close Championship in 1921. It has been a venue for prestigious tournaments including the Irish Amateur and Professional Scratch Foursomes from 1939 to 1950 and the Dunlop Irish Professional Golf Tournament in 1959.
Notable figures such as Prince Rainer and Princess Grace of Monaco visited Hermitage in 1963, underlining the course's prominence. A new clubhouse was constructed in 1969, further establishing Hermitage Golf Club’s status within the golfing community.
Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, the club hosted the Christy O’Connor International Pro-Am, drawing in top international golfers at the time. The course's prestige was reinforced when it hosted the European Ladies Team Championships in 1979 and the European Youths Team Championships in 1984, with both occasions seeing victories by the Irish national team.
Hermitage Golf Club has also been involved in women's golf history, expecting to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Hermitage Ladies Scratch Cup in 2022. It has welcomed events like the 1993 Ladies Home International Matches and the 2005 Irish Women's Open Strokeplay.
Individual achievements at Hermitage include members representing Ireland across all levels of the sport, with Stephen Browne winning the 2001 European Amateur Championship. The club's storied history is a testament to over a century of contribution to the sport of golf in Ireland.
Visitors can play Hermitage Golf Club on Mondays and Thursdays, subject to availability. All green fees must be booked in advance, and the current rate is €80 per person.
Guests playing with members are subject to a €25 green fee, which must be paid at the time of booking.
