Hexham Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Northumberland. The club was first formed in 1892.
The golf course was established in 1892 on the site of the old medieval hospice of St Giles, founded in 1114, and initially consisted of a nine-hole course that ran alongside the River Tyne, leased from the Local Board. It was the only golfing facility in the town at that time and included a basic clubhouse structure.
In 1907, Hexham Golf Club Ltd moved to its current location and the course was co-designed by Harry Vardon, opening as an 18-hole course measuring 5470 yards in 1908, accompanied by a new West Point clubhouse. The land for the old West Course, comprised of 80 acres, was leased until the Spital estate, including the Grade 1 listed Spital House and 70 additional acres, was purchased by the club in 1951.
The course, as it is known today, was extensively redesigned by golf architect C K Cotton, who laid out seven holes to the east and 11 to the west of the entrance road. By 1954, Spital House had been renovated to serve as the new clubhouse, against a setting of parkland.
