Highcliffe Castle Golf Club

Highcliffe Castle Golf Course was established on July 26, 1913, after being laid out as a nine-hole course to the east of a public footpath through the initiative of the Hon. Stuart Wortley, with Leslie Green involved in its creation. The official opening was conducted by Princess Christian and her daughter Princess Victoria, and was located within proximity to the noted Highcliffe Castle, sharing its name and historical association.

In 1927, the golf course was extended to an 18-hole course by Cecil Sargent, who later succeeded Albert (Percy) Percival as the club professional. The course saw the involvement of both the Percival and Sargent families over the years, with the latter's connection honored through the naming of the nineteenth hole as The Cecil Sargent Bar.

The first clubhouse was constructed on the northeast corner of the golf course in 1916 and remained largely unchanged for nearly seven decades. The members assumed ownership of the course and clubhouse in 1949 with a purchase price of £5,500, marking the beginning of the club as a members-owned entity managed by an annually elected Management Committee.

Significant milestones include the introduction of an irrigation system to the course in 1994-95 and the acquisition of additional land from the Ministry of Defence in the early 1980s, with intentions to enhance the course's layout. The relocation plans of the club and subsequent cancellation, as well as the suggestion to take over Highcliffe Castle itself as a clubhouse, are also noteworthy aspects of the club's historical narrative.
