Hollandbush Golf Club

The concept of a golf course in Coalburn was first considered by George Clark Snr. and nine others in the 1920s. It wasn't until November 18, 1954, that a public meeting led by George Clark Snr., John Hamilton, and John Middlemiss resulted in the formation of a committee and the first official Hollandbush Golf Club.

In July of 1955, a 9-hole course layout was surveyed by James Lawson from Hamilton Golf Club, following the securing of a lease for land on Hollandbush Farm. By 1958, after extensive work by Club members and their associates, the initial 9 holes were open for play.

In 1963, the course was acquired by the District Council, leading to the expansion of the golf course to 18 holes and the construction of a new clubhouse. The present clubhouse opened its doors to members and guests in 1993.

The Clark family's association with Hollandbush Golf Club ended in 2002 with the passing of George Clark Jr., and in 2011 Jim Hamilton, a founding member and son of John Hamilton, retired after 50 years of serving on the committee.

Hollandbush Golf Club is located in a rural South Lanarkshire area, close to major transport links like the M74. The course is known for offering views of the Southern Uplands and on clear days, the peaks of Ben More and Ben Vorlich are visible.

The original clubhouse, a converted farm building, is still visible at the 14th green. Hollandbush Golf Club has continued to evolve with the significant contributions of its members and the local community.
