About: Hornsea Golf Club

Hornsea Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Yorkshire. The club was first formed in 1898.

Hornsea Golf Club was established in 1898 and later moved to its current site in Hornsea, East Riding of Yorkshire, in 1908. The course was originally designed by Alex (Sandy) Herd, the 1902 Open Champion, with its opening in the same year.

In 1912, Dr. Alister Mackenzie, noted for designing courses such as Augusta National and Cypress Point, made significant recommendations for the course, particularly addressing the greens. Subsequently, in 1925, James Braid, a five-time Open winner, suggested changes related to the course's bunkering.

The golf course has a history of maintaining excellent playing conditions throughout the year, often avoiding the use of temporary greens. As part of an ongoing improvement plan, in 2010, Howard Swan, an internationally recognized golf course architect, provided recommendations for the course's enhancement.

Extensive rebunkering has been executed as part of these recommendations, aligning with the club's Course Policy. The Course Manager, Gareth Williams, has been with the club since 2006, having prior experience at prestigious golf venues such as Wentworth, Sarasota, and the 2009 Open Championship venue, Turnberry.
