Kendal Golf Club

Kendal Golf Club was formed in 1891 and is one of the oldest clubs in Cumbria, having seen many changes to the course layout and the clubhouse over its history. The golf course notably received input from Old Tom Morris, a prominent figure in the game's history, who assisted with the course design in the early 1900s.

Originally a 12-hole course established over a disused racecourse, it expanded to 18 holes and in 1897 transitioned to an 88-acre site closer to the town. The Serpentine Golf Club, later renamed Kendal Golf Club, was created and underwent a merger that led to the closure of the Race Course Club in 1907.

Throughout its development, various famous golf professionals, such as Harry and Tom Vardon and J.H. Taylor, contributed to course alterations, and the course layout was significantly extended in 1912/1913. Major enhancements to the clubhouse and changes to the course, including the conversion of the greens to USPGA specification sand-based greens, occurred in the 1960s and 1990s.

The golf course features a par of 69 and presents a challenging experience for golfers due to its natural limestone drainage and the terrain’s inherent characteristics. Noteworthy is the club's 125th anniversary in 2016, marked by various events and the introduction of a par 3 course and a new portable driving range.
