Kilmacolm Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Renfrewshire. The club was first formed in 1891.
The golf course at Kilmacolm was initially established in April 1891 as a nine-hole course within the areas that now comprise the first, second, and eighteenth holes along with the present practice ground. By August of the same year, expansion was underway, leasing additional land to the south of Houston Road to create the desired 18-hole layout.
Described in a 1928 Club booklet, the Kilmacolm Golf Course is located on moorland above Kilmacolm, featuring natural hazards integrated into the layout, and turf comparable to that of seaside courses. The greens, noted for being undulating, have been historically maintained to high standards and the course was at one point likened to 'a miniature Gleneagles' due to its quality.
In response to local temperance movements in the 1920s and the subsequent 'no licence' vote in Kilmacolm Parish, the course, situated outside the Parish boundaries, continued to serve alcohol under a licence acquired since 1902. A 1926 motion to make the club 'dry' was overwhelmingly defeated in what became the largest recorded vote in the club's history.
The year 1984 marked a pivotal moment when the club's Captain Allan McNeilage and his Committee secured the purchase of the club grounds from Elderslie Estates, transitioning from tenants since 1891 to owners. This change allowed for future enhancements to both the course and clubhouse as the 100-year anniversary approached.
Preceding the club's centennial in 1991, a new clubhouse extension was constructed at a cost of £155,000, driven by member feedback calling for improved changing room and bar facilities, as well as a better mixed entrance. The extension was credited to the collaborative efforts of Captain Gordon Farquhar and Willie Douglas, with its completion satisfying the membership's expectations.
Visitor green fees are available. Please book tee times directly through the club's website or by phone.
High season rates: Weekdays are £85 and weekends are £95.
