About: Kington Golf Club

Kington Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Herefordshire. The club was first formed in 1925.

Kington was established by Major Cecil Hutchison in 1925 on Bradnor Hill; his 18-hole layout opened in 1926. Hutchison worked alongside Park, MacKenzie, Colt, Braid, Fowler and Ross. The Cookie Jar Golf Podcast (Ep. 269, Feb 2024) reported: "We inquired with Sunningdale – they're not taking visitors. So we ended up on Kington. I really wanna play Kington." In Ep. 353, Kington was grouped with "Painswick, Cleeve, Welshpool – these types of hilltop courses" where "the characteristic of the greens is what kind of brings them together... To dig out a flat green surface you end up with these really sharp fall-offs."

Moorland turf, free-draining greens, five par threes and extensive views define Kington. Skylarks and red kites are frequent; value and conditioning are standout.
