Kingussie Golf Club is a members' golf club, in North Scotland. The club was first formed in 1891.
Kingussie Golf Course was first played on in 1890 and, in 1895, Old Tom Morris of St Andrews was invited to advise on establishing a new course on the same site, leading to his design changes to three holes in 1898. Capt MacHardy, Chief Constable of Inverness-shire, laid out a nine-hole course on the west side of the River Gynack in 1899, marking the club's official recognition by the R&A.
Due to a local dispute, golfers temporarily played on an alternative site in Kerrow, but by the following season they returned to the original course, which saw its first clubhouse built in 1901, replaced in 1904, and then again in 1911 to accommodate a growing membership. The core of the present clubhouse building still dates from that 1911 construction.
The golf course was officially opened on July 8, 1891, following a meeting in June 1891 where local leaders established the club and initiated plans for a course layout; Harry Vardon expanded the course to eighteen holes following his advice sought in 1906. Notable later alterations include significant changes to the closing holes in the late 1920s and the creation of a new 10th hole in 1990, with the layout of the course largely reflecting the original designs by Old Tom Morris and Harry Vardon.
Kingussie Golf Course faced challenges post-World War I and World War II, but innovations such as converting a putting green into a caravan park in the 1950s helped revitalize the club's finances. The success of this venture led to an investment in infrastructure for the caravan sites, and, as of the latest updates, 57 caravans occupy the park, contributing to the club's community and financial stability.
The 1990s and early 21st century were a time of prosperity for the course, highlighted by visitor numbers being high enough to warrant rangers, and the club's ability to invest in the course and even purchase it from its previous landowner. Adversely, a subsequent economic recession presented the club with considerable challenges, yet plans are in place to adapt to changing demographics and expectations in the golf industry, aiming to ensure the club's longevity.
Visitor green fees are £50 for a single round. Twilight fees after 4pm are £30.
Other rates include a day ticket for £60, a young adult day ticket (under 18) for £18, and a junior day ticket (under 16) for £12. A weekly ticket is available for £200 or £85 for juniors.
