Knighton Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Mid Wales. The club was first formed in 1906.
Knighton Golf Club was established in 1906, starting as a six-hole course in Woodhouse Lane, with the complete origins of its inception not being documented. Four major golf publications of the early 1900s, including Golf Illustrated and The Golfers Annual, have mentioned the club, and records can be found in the British Library and the Welsh National Library.
In 1912, the notable golfer Harry Vardon, a six-time winner of the British Open Championship, laid out the current course at Knighton. The course, situated on a hillside approximately 1,000 to 1,200 feet above sea level, was designed to utilize the natural contours of the hills to protect the greens.
The official opening of the course occurred on April 30, 1913, with celebratory matches featuring Harry Vardon. Since its opening, Knighton Golf Club has persisted through significant global changes, maintained chiefly by the volunteer efforts of its members.
Located in Wales near the border with England, Knighton Golf Club's nine-hole course was designed by Harry Vardon in 1913 and incorporates the Offas Dyke Path. The course offers a varied topography with uphill and downhill elements, and players may encounter local wildlife such as upland sheep and Red Kites.
The course at Knighton Golf Club provides a challenging game as it does not easily yield its par, with notable holes like the Par 5 eighth hole that includes Offas Dyke. Despite its demanding layout, the course remains an integral part of the golf club, supported by the dedication of its members.
Winter green fees (October 1st to March 31st) are £10 per day for adults and £5 per day for juniors.
Visitor green fees for 9 holes are £10 on weekdays and £15 on weekends. Junior visitor fees are £5 on both weekdays and weekends, and they must be accompanied by a KGC member or a paying adult visitor.
