Knockanally Golf Club

Knockanally Golf Course in Kildare, Ireland, was designed and built by Noel Lyons in 1983, and it opened for play in 1985. The course was the venue for the Irish Professional Matchplay Championship beginning in 1987, which was won by Ryder Cup player Brian Waites.

The course is known for challenging holes and water hazards that come into play on several occasions, notably on the 10th and 11th holes. Christy O'Connor, a celebrated golfer, described the first hole at Knockanally as "the most difficult opening hole in golf," highlighting the strategic play required off the tee.

The course is part of an estate with significant history; the original Knockanally House, built in the late 1700s, was adjacent to the current 12th fairway. The estate changed hands several times, with the present Knockanally House built in 1843 in a Palladian style by the Coates family.

After varying ownership and the demolition of the original house, Knockanally Golf & Country Club became the current owner of the estate. The club extends a unique blend of golfing amenities and historical context, with a clubhouse that helps maintain an old world atmosphere.

Green fees are €20 during the week and €25 on weekends and Bank Holidays. Green fees when accompanied by a member are €12.50.
