Laytown & Bettystown Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Meath. The club was first formed in 1909.
The Laytown & Bettystown Golf Course can trace its origins to the late 1880s when Tom Gilroy, a retired bank, and Scots expatriate established private holes for golf on his land. The initial makeshift course consisted of four holes situated between two lighthouses near Mornington House, where Gilroy resided.
Due to issues with rabbits and maintenance, Gilroy left the area to co-found County Louth Golf Club in 1892, leaving the future of golf in the Laytown & Bettystown area uncertain. However, in March 1909, a resurgence of interest led by George Daly resulted in a formal meeting to establish the Laytown and Bettystown Golf Club, effectively continuing Gilroy's early endeavors.
The course was finetuned and evolved from the original few holes into an organized golf course through communal efforts initiated by local enthusiasts.
Since its establishment, the golf course at Laytown & Bettystown has provided a playing ground for golfers in the region. The course is notably situated in an area that once faced disruption by local wildlife and now carries the legacy of two passionate golfers, Gilroy and Daly, who significantly contributed to its conception and revival respectively.
