Leasowe Golf Club

Leasowe Golf Club was established in June 1891 following a circular issued by Mr. C. Nigel Stewart, with the Golf Club securing land on Leasowe Common for the links-style course. The initial nine-hole golf course was located near Moreton lighthouse, where golf was played on Saturdays and local amenities were provided by Mrs. Williams, the last Lady Lighthouse Keeper in England.

John Ball Junior, a prominent figure in golf who won the British Amateur Championships and the Open Championship, was the first captain of Leasowe Golf Club. Over the years, the course was expanded to 18 holes, although some original land was lost due to coastal erosion and infrastructure developments, including the re-routing of Leasowe Road and the presence of Leasowe Castle, which is near the course.

In August 1893, a new clubhouse was opened, and following World War I, the original nine holes became Moreton Ladies Golf Club and later turned into market gardens. Despite losing land to natural elements and road construction, the course eventually gained new land and was fully acquired by Leasowe Golf Club by 1984.

In 1963, a devastating fire destroyed the original clubhouse, leading to the loss of written records and memorabilia; however, a replacement clubhouse was subsequently erected due to the efforts of the club's members and leadership.
