About: Lilley Brook Golf Club

Lilley Brook Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Gloucestershire. The club was first formed in 1921.

The golf course known as Lilley Brook Golf Club was established in 1921 when Cheltenham Golf Club leased 132 acres of land to the south of Cheltenham, and it was named after the nearby Lilley Brook, a tributary of the River Chelt. The course design was commissioned to Dr. Alister MacKenzie, who worked on the project until 1923 and is renowned for designing Augusta National, among other courses.

In 1964, the golf course underwent a significant redesign which included the purchase of additional land, and the new layout retained nine of Dr. MacKenzie's original holes, alongside some of the initial greens and early tree plantings. The club acquired official recognition as a MacKenzie course from the MacKenzie Society, even though the original designs and paperwork were destroyed in a clubhouse flood.
