About: Mendip Golf Club

Mendip Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Somerset. The club was first formed in 1895.

The Mendip Golf Club, as it is known at its present location, was established in 1908, while its original incarnation dates back to 1895 on a site in Doulting. Founded with the support of a community meeting at the Hare and Hounds hotel, the club began with a President, Secretary and Treasurer, and a minimum membership goal which was reached, allowing for ground preparation to start.

A nine-hole course with a par of 36 was laid out, featuring natural hazards like ditches and hedges but without bunkers originally. Difficulties such as rent increases led to the club's cessation between 1898 and 1907, followed by its reformation and the decision to remain at Doulting despite challenges. However, tenant landlord issues prompted a move, and by October 1908, a new site at Maesbury was secured, with loans from members and local backers financing a pavilion. A professional, believed to be a brother of Harry Vardon, was engaged to lay out the course.

Standard green fees for 2025/2026 are £55 on weekdays and £65 on weekends. Twilight rates, after 4 PM Monday through Sunday, are £32. County card holders can play for £40. Guests playing with a member is also £32.
