Mid Herts Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Hertfordshire. The club was first formed in 1892.
Mid Herts Golf Club was established in 1892 on Gustard Wood Common, with its first 9-hole course designed by Charles Thom and laid out by Horace Rawlins, who later became the first US Open champion. In 1897, a clubhouse was constructed on the current site, and by 1923, the course was expanded to 18 holes under the guidance of James Braid, extending its area beyond The Slype and Kimpton Road.
In 1935, the club purchased the Manorial Rights, assuming ownership of Gustard Wood Common, though the public retained access rights. The course underwent significant changes in the 1960s to accommodate new holes and a practice area, and a brick clubhouse replaced the original wooden structure.
Since the club's centenary in 1992, there has been considerable investment in the course and clubhouse facilities, including the refurbishment and redevelopment of the clubhouse in 2000, which was opened by honorary member Sir Terry Wogan. Recent renovations have included a comprehensive refurbishment of the bar, dining area, and ladies' locker room, along with the installation of solar panels and plans for water supply from a borehole.
Preservation of the course's ecological heathland features has garnered recognition, including from the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust and BBC's Countryfile, with further conservation plans in place to enhance the natural grasslands and attract wildlife. The golf club celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2017, marking the rich history and ongoing development of the course and its facilities.
