Mitchelstown Golf Club

Mitchelstown Golf Club, established in 1910, initially operated as a nine-hole course. The transition to an eighteen-hole course was achieved through two phases, with six new holes opened in 1994 and the remaining six in 2003, realizing the ambition of a full eighteen-hole course.

David Jones from Bangor, Northern Ireland, designed both stages of the course expansion. He had a varied career as a touring professional and has designed a total of seventeen courses worldwide. The course was recognized by the Munster branch of the G.U.I. as Munster Club of the Year in 2011, and noted by Kevin Markham in 2015 as one of the top affordable golf courses in Ireland.

The golf course is located in North Cork, near the Galtee Mountains, and is characterized as a parkland course. Notable for its well-maintained terrain, the course remains playable throughout the year and includes a part with newer holes across an open hillside while older sections navigate sprawling trees and the River Funcheon.

Challenges on the course include a variety of holes with specific strategic elements, such as out-of-bounds areas, bunkers, doglegs, and the necessity for precision shots. The course has received accolades for particular holes, with the 4th hole being included in "Ireland's Best 100 Golf Holes."
