Monmouth Golf Club

Monmouth Golf Club was established on the 25th June 1896, following a meeting at the Kings Head Hotel. The course initially occupied a site on Priory Farm near Dixton Road, proving to be unsuitable for golf, leading to a relocation to Vauxhall, where it took over an existing course temporarily.

Challenges to membership growth included the landowner's desire to use the fairways for haymaking, prompting a court case that culminated in a High Court ruling in 1910 defining a fairway in the club's favor. Despite this, the course was closed in 1912, and several failed attempts to reopen ensued until a successful relaunch at Dixton on a portion of the present course in 1920.

George Waldron, the club's first professional, laid out a scenic nine-hole course which officially opened on the 1st October 1921. Through the years, the course saw improvements and expanded to an eighteen-hole course, which opened on 18th July 1992, with a new clubhouse following later that year.

In 2008, Monmouth Golf Club successfully purchased the freehold of the land they had been renting, securing ownership of the 18-hole, par 69 course for its members. The course is now entirely owned by the members of Monmouth Golf Club after this acquisition.
