About: Mullingar Golf Club

Mullingar Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Westmeath. The club was first formed in 1935.

Mullingar Golf Club was established in 1935 with a layout designed by the celebrated Scottish golf course architect James Braid. The course is recognized for its championship challenge set within a mature wooded parkland that was originally part of the Belvedere Estate.

The 18-hole course spans 6,685 yards with a par 72, comprising 10 par 4s, 4 par 5s, and 4 par 3s. Notable features include the signature 209-yard second hole, elevated tee and green, and it is considered one of the premier par 3s in Irish golf.

Since 1963, Mullingar Golf Club has been the annual venue for the Mullingar Scratch Trophy, a prestigious amateur golf tournament. The course's amateur record is a 64, set by Gareth Shaw during the Mullingar Scratch Trophy in 2005.

Significant upgrades were made to the course in the early 2000s, including the installation of USGA standard greens and tees, strategic bunkering, and the relocation of four greens, all done in accordance with preserving Braid's original design. These renovations were under the guidance of professional and designer David Jones.
