Mullion Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Cornwall. The club was first formed in 1895.
Mullion Golf Club was established following a public meeting on 26 June 1895, with the objective of forming the club, which was consequently named The Mullion Golf Club. The initial committee included President Mr Sydney Davey, various vice presidents including The Right Honourable Lord Robartes, and Captain L Rogers, along with other key officials.
This golf course is positioned on the cliffs of the Lizard Peninsula, defining itself as the most southerly course in England. It is surrounded by features such as sandy coves and protected reed beds, and has been in play for over a century.
In the post-World War II era, Mullion Golf Club experienced financial difficulties due to declining membership, which led to the sale of the club's land and buildings to the National Trust. Subsequently, local supporters negotiated with the Trust to preserve golf on part of the course, which eventually led to the restoration of the original 18-hole layout as the sport's popularity increased.
The course has undergone improvements and the addition of modern facilities in recent years. Mullion celebrated its centenary in 1995 and has hosted important events including the centennial championships of the Cornwall Golf Union in 2001.
The Mullion golf course starts with a challenging par 3 hole that requires a tee shot competent to navigate through headwinds and avoid a strategically placed bunker. The hole is designed such that there is a premium on accuracy, with the safest approach shot being short and right of the green.
Gordon, the Head Greenkeeper, is recognized for maintaining the greens in excellent condition throughout the year, contributing to the reliable playability of the course regardless of the season.
