Murcar Links Golf Club is a members' golf club, in North East Scotland. The club was first formed in 1909.
Murcar Links Golf Course was established in 1909 in Aberdeen, Scotland, after a decision at a meeting in December 1908 at the Imperial Hotel in Aberdeen. The course's name was chosen after a tiebreaker vote during the formative meeting, with "Murcar" eventually being selected over "Seaton," also reflected in the names of specific holes on the course.
The original layout of Murcar Links Golf Course was designed by Archie Simpson, who was then Professional and Keeper of the Green at the neighboring Royal Aberdeen Golf Course, and the course opened in June 1909. Notably, Murcar Links allowed Sunday play, being the first private club in the North of Scotland to do so, and has undergone alterations by noted golf course designers James Braid and George Smith in the 1930s.
The Strabathie 9-hole course at Murcar Links, designed by James Braid, measures 5,369 yards and presents a challenge with the Strabathie Burn affecting six of its nine holes. Transportation to the course was facilitated by the Seaton Brick and Tile Company tramcar, which was later purchased by Murcar Golf Club and operated until 1949, serving as an essential link to the golf course for many years.
In 2006, Murcar Links underwent significant developments including a clubhouse refurbishment, improvements to the course, and the creation of a modern practice facility, coinciding with a unanimous decision by club members to return to its original 1909 nomenclature. The course, blending historical traditions with modern enhancements, is part of Scotland's rich golfing heritage.
Visitor rates for 18 holes during peak season (April - October) are £145 on weekdays and £155 on weekends. Booking online is recommended to secure tee times and potentially find special offers. For groups larger than 8, it's advised to contact the club directly.
