Nairn Dunbar Golf Club

The Nairn Dunbar Golf Course was established on Wednesday 24th May 1899, on the occasion of Queen Victoria's 80th birthday. The course was initiated with a procession of local officials to the first tee of what was then a nine-hole course, made possible through Sir Alexander Dunbar of Boath's provision of 60 acres of land.

The course was officially opened by Lady Dunbar, the mother of Sir Alexander Dunbar. Following Sir Alexander's untimely death in 1900, the course underwent expansion to 18 holes in 1924, thanks to the acquisition of additional land from the Town Council and other landowners.

During World War II, despite being in close proximity to land-mined beaches and military encroachment, golf remained active at the course. Post-war, the sport experienced a surge in popularity, prompting extensions to the original clubhouse in 1962 and 1976 to accommodate growing numbers of members and visitors.

Anticipating its centenary, the club recognized the need for significant redevelopment; this included the addition of three new holes near Culbin Forrest in 1994, and the sale of ‘the Hill’ for housing to fund a new clubhouse opened in 1997. Today, the Nairn Dunbar Golf Course is an 18-hole, par 72 championship layout, extending 6765 yards and located on the Moray Firth with varied golfing challenges.
