Olton Golf Club

Olton Golf Club was established on 9 November 1893 by founder Mr James Power Heaton, in St Bernards Road Olton, on rented agricultural land. It began as a 9-hole course and expanded to 18 holes by 1901, and then relocated to its present location in Solihull in 1903, retaining the name Olton Golf Club despite the geographical shift.

The club's early prestige was marked by hosting the Midland Counties Championship in 1908, and a professional tournament in 1910 that attracted top players of the era such as Arnaud Massey, James Braid, and Harry Vardon. Notable events over the years included an exhibition match in 1954 and the Boys Open Championship in 1960, with a consistently strong tradition in hosting major competitions.

A new clubhouse was constructed in 1935 on Mirfield Road, where it remains to this day. The design of the golf course itself is attributed to the influence of esteemed designer Harry S Colt, known for creating challenging and strategic courses.

Located within 95 acres of mature parkland near the center of Solihull, Olton Golf Club offers unique features, such as six tee off points near the clubhouse enabling varied lengths for practice rounds. The course is recognized for its outstanding greens and has hosted high-profile events like a Pro-Am tournament in 2002 with a substantial prize fund, attracting top professional players.
