About: Phoenix Golf Club

Phoenix Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Yorkshire. The club was first formed in 1932.

Phoenix Golf Club was officially established on 1st January 1932 by workers of the local steelmaking firm, Steel, Peech & Tozer, with an initial membership of 22 founder members. The course was developed on scrubland and former arable land into a nine-hole course by Mr. Tom Williamson and was expanded to fourteen holes by 1935, with further work performed using simple hand-tools.

The first official game on the course was played in the winter of 1932 by Bert Douglas, Seth Hampshire, Morley Gladwin, and Norrie Bacon. In 1949, golf course architect Mr. C K Cotton designed an 18-hole layout which was officially opened in 1952 after expanding onto land north of Bawtry Road.

Today, Phoenix Golf Club is located at Pavilion Lane, Brinsworth, Rotherham, S60 5PA. The parkland style golf course is designed to provide an enjoyable experience for golfers of all skill levels.
