About: Pleasington Golf Club

Pleasington Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Lancashire. The club was first formed in 1891.

In 1891, Pleasington Golf Club was established by Fred T. Marwood, with the first 9 holes set out by George Lowe Snr, a professional from Lytham St. Annes Golf Club, within East Lancashire. In 1909, the course was expanded to 18 holes by Alexander "Sandy" Herd, a past Open champion, and the course at that time measured 5,000 yards with a new clubhouse opened on June 9th, 1910.

The Pleasington Golf Club has evolved over 120+ years, maintaining historical elements while the Championship Blue Course now extends over 6,500 yards. Notably, the 6th hole was modified and a major bridge construction project, completed by Network Rail in 2014, necessitated rearrangements to the playing order of the holes.

After the establishment of the course, Pleasington Golf Club has been home to accomplished golfers, including Julia Greenhalgh, a prominent amateur golfer and life member since 1966, with a history of representing England and Great Britain. In recent years, the course has attracted various businesses, including Phoenix Feeds and local artist Peter Worswick, and became the home of the Professional Golfers Association England and Wales (North) in 2018.

The club has a rich history, commemorated in the publication "Pleasington Golf Club 1891-1991," which provides detailed historical accounts. Pleasington Golf Club has been recognized as a significant heathland golf course in Lancashire, hosting many prestigious events and maintaining high standards of design and playability throughout its history.
