About: Puttenham Golf Club

Puttenham Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Surrey. The club was first formed in 1894.

Puttenham Golf Club was established in 1894 by a group of Army Officers, Charterhouse School Masters, and local businessmen. The course was originally a 9-hole layout which was expanded to 18 holes just before World War II.

The golf course is situated in the foothills of the Hogs Back, Surrey, and is well-known for its tree-lined fairways and undulating terrain. Noted golf architect Donald Steel was commissioned to create five new holes and upgrade other parts of the course in the late 1980s, which further enhanced its challenges and features.

Though the course is set in an area with many high-ranking golf courses, Puttenham's 18-hole course presents an engaging and interesting challenge. With only three par 3s and a combination of par 4s and 5s, it requires strategic placement and accurate short-iron play.

Notable is the par-4 13th hole, identified as the most challenging due to its right-to-left layout through trees leading to a well-defended green. The course offers an interesting mix of holes, including a risk-reward short par 4 over the club’s emblematic oak tree, alongside the neighboring cricket ground.
