Rochester & Cobham Park Golf Club

Rochester & Cobham Park Golf Club was originally established as Rochester Golf Club in 1891 with a 9-hole course at Oakleigh Farm in Higham, which later became an 18-hole course. The club faced closure in 1919 until the 8th Earl of Darnley offered a lease on the Deer Park at Cobham Hall, where a new course, primarily designed by Capt. Alison from the firm Colt, Mackenzie and Alison, was opened in 1920.

The golf course underwent major changes in 1997 due to the construction of the Channel Tunnel rail link, leading to a new clubhouse and redesign of the course by Donald Steel. The modern course reflects the style of the 1920 course but includes seven completely new holes and USGA standard greens, along with a commitment to preserve the indigenous hardwood trees as specified by planner Humphry Repton.

Over time, Rochester & Cobham Park Golf Club has hosted significant tournaments like the Kent Amateur Championship and The Open Championship regional qualifying rounds. The course is characterised by its veteran trees, including one oak believed to be over 600 years old, affirming its status as a reputable inland golf course in the county.
