Rosslare Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Wexford. The club was first formed in 1905.
Rosslare Golf Links, situated on a narrow peninsula known as Ros Láir in Ireland, was established in 1905 as an 18-hole course, but was later reduced to a 9-hole layout due to spatial constraints. The course initially covered 58 acres 1 rood and 34 perches and was sublet to James J. Farrall at £30 per year, with the first committee meeting occurring on September 2, 1905.
After overcoming financial difficulties and bankruptcy of the initial proprietor in 1906, the golf course was sold to W.E Hewat for £610, but golf continued under new lease agreements reached in June 1908. Membership in 1908 comprised 124 men and 95 women, mostly from the local Wexford society, and the course was expanded back to 18 holes in 1925 after the acquisition of surrounding land and property.
The course design and bunker layout were commissioned to the firm of Hawtree and Taylor, with construction being completed under the supervision of local greenkeeper Jimmy Ennis. Official play on the new 18-hole course began in 1926, with the course subsequently gaining national recognition, hosting events such as the Irish Close Championship in 1934 and the Irish Ladies Close Championship in 1948 and 1953.
Erosion has consistently presented challenges to the course, necessitating various protective measures throughout its history. Upgrades and renovations were continuously implemented, including a 9-hole addition designed by Christy O'Connor Jnr. in 1992, further extended in 2000, and improvements to the 18 holes reflecting the contemporary layout.
Rosslare Golf Links has a history of hosting notable tournaments and receiving praise from famed golfers, with an active and successful junior golfing program and adult victories in regional championships. The club approached its centenary in 2005 with pride, documented in the publication 'Fairways to the Sea' by Tom Williams, while ongoing efforts to manage coastal erosion exemplify the ongoing battle between man and nature testified on these burrow lands.
Green fees for the Old Course vary depending on the season. High season (April - October) weekday rates are €85, while weekend rates are €120. Low season (November - March) weekday rates are €55, and weekend rates are €75, including Bank Holidays.
