Rotherham Golf Club

Rotherham Golf Course is situated within the grounds of Thrybergh Park, a location with historical significance dating back to the Domesday Book. The land has been associated with notable families, including the Reresbys, who were in unbroken succession for sixteen generations from around 1316.

The golf course itself was established in 1903 and was originally a nine-hole course designed by Open Champion Sandy Herd. It was expanded to 18 holes in 1906 and has been modified by prominent golf architect James Braid, known for his work across the British Isles.

Rotherham Golf Course is characterized as a parkland course and features historical elements such as two surviving chestnut trees planted to commemorate the Spanish Armada's defeat. The current clubhouse, a neo-gothic structure, dates back to a 19th-century build by the Fullerton family.

The course has been providing a venue for golfers of various skill levels for over a century and has been praised by professionals such as Lee Westwood and Danny Willett. Notable events like the Rotherham Golf Club Open Stroke Play Championship and a 36-hole event in August highlight its standing within the golf community.
