About: Royal Ascot Golf Club

Royal Ascot Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Berkshire. The club was first formed in 1887.

Royal Ascot Golf Club was established by F.J. Patton in 1887 and received Royal status by Queen Victoria the same year. The club's first professional was Joseph Longhurst, appointed in 1887 and serving for 25 years.

Originally, Royal Ascot Golf Club had a nine-hole course on Ascot Heath within the racetrack, which later merged with the Ascot Ladies Golf Club in 1895 to form an 18-hole course designed by J.H. Taylor. The club hosted the inaugural British Boys Championship in 1921 and presented a cup for the annual tournament, which continues today.

Post-World War II, the club reformed, revitalizing both the course and clubhouse, and celebrated its centenary in 1987 with Henry Cotton. A major redevelopment of the racecourse in 2000 resulted in the relocation of the club to a new course across Winkfield Road on the former Ascot Farm site.

The current course at Royal Ascot Golf Club opened for play in August 2005, with the formal opening by the Club patron, HRH Prince Andrew, Duke of York, in May 2006. Royal Ascot celebrated its 125th Anniversary in 2012 and has a history of fostering players who have advanced to both the Professional and Amateur Circuits.

Notable players from Royal Ascot Golf Club include Barry Lane, a European Tour regular with over 500 appearances and part of the 1993 Ryder Cup Team. Anthony Wall, former junior member, winner of the 2000 Alfred Dunhill Championship, and others have also succeeded in professional circuits, originating from this club.

The club, now at its new location on Winkfield Road, Ascot, Berkshire, continues to thrive, offering a modern golf course that hosts various tournaments and member competitions. Exceptional drainage ensures playability throughout the year, and it remains the oldest golf club in the area now playing on a modern course.
