Royal Cromer Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Norfolk. The club was first formed in 1887.
Royal Cromer Golf Club was established in 1887, when Henry Broadhurst MP, along with other prominent locals, formed the club during the Great British golfing boom. The first tee shot on the initial 9-hole course was made by founder member Benjamin Bond Cabbell in early 1888, with royal patronage granted by the then Prince of Wales who would become King Edward VII.
Old Tom Morris, renowned for his work on courses like Carnoustie, Muirfield, and St Andrews Old Course, expanded Royal Cromer to an 18-hole course. The course encountered issues such as cliff falls and financial difficulties, but stability was regained by 1914, aided by support from Lord Suffield during World War I.
The hosting of the Ladies British Amateur Open Championship in 1905 marked an essential chapter in the course's history, setting the stage for the conception of the Curtis Cup. Later, the course underwent major developments with the guidance of distinguished golf architects J H Taylor and James Braid, around 1911 and the mid-1920s respectively.
Royal Cromer Golf Club, post World Wars, entered a period of regular activity including significant exhibition matches, with the 14th hole receiving commendation from golfer Tony Jacklin. The history of the course, alongside various artefacts and documentation, is displayed in the clubhouse, particularly within The History Room, also known as the Henry Broadhurst room.
Visitors are welcome any day of the week. High season is May to September. Twilight rates (after 3pm) are available during the high season on both weekdays and weekends.
Contact the club directly on 01263 512 884 to book your tee time, as they operate a restricted online booking system.
