Royal Curragh Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Kildare.
The golf course at the Curragh was first played on by the 91st (Argyllshire) Highlanders in September 1875, with evidence of golf being played on this location as far back as 1852. The course is located on Curragh plains, a significant area of natural grassland and heath, which has been uncultivated for over 2,000 years, providing a distinct heathland condition for golf.
In 1910, the golf course was granted the title 'Royal' by King George V, following a request by General Sir Neville Lyttelton, although the exact origins of the club on which the course is based are not definitively known. A key figure in the course's history, William (Bill) Tinsley, served as Head Greenkeeper from 1897 to 1950, shaping what is recognized as the modern course.
