Rufford Park Golf and Country Club is located in the heart of Sherwood Forest, which provides a scenic backdrop for the golf course. The all-weather course benefits from construction on a sandy base that allows for free-draining and quality playing surfaces year-round.

The course was designed with the parkland's natural undulations in mind, and architects such as Donald Steel have contributed to its design, while current consultancy comes from the company led by Ken Brown, a former Ryder Cup player and BBC commentator. Notable features include signature holes designed to provide a memorable golfing experience at Rufford Park.
