Rushden Golf Club

The golf course, initially, of the Rushden and District Golf Club in 1919, was established by a small group of local businessmen playing in a field at Stanwick. Its tenancy to the Duchy of Lancaster began with a sub-lease from an adjacent farmer, involving a unique feature of up to 200 sheep grazing on the course.

Following Harry Robinson's death in 1978, the club secured a direct lease with the Duchy, which allowed greater control over the course's development, including tree planting and fairway maintenance. The course layout reflects agricultural origins, with historical ridge and furrow plowing patterns influencing play by offering a variety of stances.

The course opened in 1909 and was extended from a 9-hole to an 18-hole parkland course in 2013, with input from club members. New trees have been added in the past five years, enhancing the character of the course.

The land's history is acknowledged through the golf course's association with the Duchy of Lancaster and symbolism such as the leather bucket, related to the area's leather trade, and the heraldic lion, reflecting royal ownership.
