Sandiway Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Cheshire. The club was first formed in 1920.
Sandiway Golf Club was established after the original Mid-Cheshire Golf Club, formed in 1902, went into liquidation post-World War I due to the land being required for other developments. The new club was formally incorporated on October 20, 1920, with financial aid from Brunner Mond & Co., which possessed significant influence in the club's early affairs.
Course construction at Sandiway began in November 1920 under the supervision of Edward "Ted" Ray on land leased from Lord Delamere, and by mid-1921, golf was being played, though the official opening would not occur until 1923. The necessity of a clubhouse led to Brunner Mond & Co. donating a building, Bachelors Hall, to the club in late 1921.
During World War II, despite adjustments such as the cultivation of the 14th and 15th fairways for food production, Sandiway Golf Club remained active, maintained by a minimal team and used by stationed troops, leaving historical marks such as an American serviceman's carved inscription and an altered men's 4th tee. The decade of the 1950s saw changes with a road bypass leading to the creation of new holes and reshaping of the course landscape.
Into the 1960s and 1970s, Sandiway Golf Club's reputation and membership grew, hosting prestigious events such as the Open Championship qualifying competitions in 1967 and setting roots as a prominent venue for both amateur and professional competitions. Investment in infrastructure and improvements has included lease purchases for asset freehold, the introduction of a professional's shop, and the upgrade of essential facilities.
The club celebrated its centennial in 2020 with events highlighting its standing as one of Cheshire's esteemed courses. Throughout Sandiway Golf Club's history, it has seen membership increases, course developments, and has served as a hub for regional golfing activities.
