Seaford Head Golf Course

Seaford Head Golf Course, located in East Sussex, was established on 6th August 1887, making it one of the first golf clubs in England. The club was founded by local residents, and the inaugural meeting took place a few weeks before the first general meeting on 8th September 1887.

The original golf course comprised 12 holes over 150 acres leased from Mr. Launcelot Harison, with a yearly rent of £70, and was laid out by Mr John Thompson of Felixstowe. Despite being a grazing area for sheep, the course was functional, offering a one-and-a-quarter-mile layout which was later expanded to 18 holes in 1889.

In May 1928, the course and clubhouse were acquired by Seaford Urban District Council. A significant event in the course's history occurred in 1940 when it was requisitioned by the military for food production during the war, which affected several holes that still show evidence of this period today.

Post-war reconstruction of the golf course happened in 1946, and is currently under the management of Seaford Town Council. The course offers views of the Seven Sisters at the 13th, 14th and 15th holes, and has an iconic 18th hole with an elevated tee providing a striking vista over Seaford Bay.
