Strawberry Hill Golf Club

The Strawberry Hill Golf Course was initiated after the sale of Chiswick Golf Club in 1900, leading a group of six residents to establish a new playing area on 27 acres of land behind Milton House, granted by the Freake Estate Company. Initially, the course lacked formal greens and bunkers, with sheep hurdles serving as improvised hazards.

JH Taylor, a renowned golfer and course designer, was consulted to layout the nine-hole, parkland course at Strawberry Hill, which officially became a golf course following a lease agreement with the Freake Estate in November 1902. The golf course's early facilities included a kitchen and a bar converted from stables and a locker room from the previous grooms' quarters.

The course experienced threats of eviction until its purchase in 1936 by various local governmental bodies, ensuring its permanence. Significant events including the club's 50th anniversary celebrations in 1950, a 36-hole professional tournament in 1968, and the establishment of the current course ownership under the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames in April 1971 marked its evolving history.

Over time, elements like the clubhouse, the equality of member rights, and the hosting of notable golf events such as a visit from professional Doug Sanders, have shaped its development. As of 2010, the course accommodates all members with the same tees while maintaining distinct Course Ratings and Slope Ratings for men and women.
