About: The Burley Golf Club

The Burley Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Hampshire. The club was first formed in 1905.

The Burley Golf Course was established in 1905 by a group of businessmen who convened in the village of Burley to discuss its formation. The course, initially much shorter than today, was laid out on land locally known as Pigsty Hill and was completed by January 1st, 1906, with the first shot played by Admiral Prothero.

Designed with advice from Mr. Curtis of Bournemouth, the professional Percy Reeves was appointed and served the club for 45 years. Notable developments include the replacement of the 3rd and 4th holes in the 1970s, which became par 5s, and a change in the men's tee positions in July 1987 to the layout that has largely remained the same since.

During World War II, the golf course was requisitioned by the army, and following the end of the war, the club was compensated £40 by the War Department for its use. The Burley Golf Course is characteristic of forest golf, with sandy ground and natural topography, providing a unique playing experience amidst the local wildlife.

The course's centenary was celebrated in 2005, recognized by the English Golf Union and the R&A, and the course has seen consistent use and appreciation for both its golfing challenges and its setting within the New Forest landscape. Visitors continue to be welcome at Burley, which offers varied experiences based on its unique layout and natural features.

Visitor green fees are available. 18 holes Monday to Friday (except Bank Holidays) is £30. County card holders pay £20 for 18 holes. A twilight rate (Sundowner after 3pm) of £25 is available.

Weekend and Bank Holiday rates for 18 holes are £35. Juniors 14-17 (accompanied by an adult) pay £10. Playing 18 holes with a member costs £25.
