The Worcestershire Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Worcestershire. The club was first formed in 1879.
The Worcestershire Golf Club was established in 1879; it moved from Poolbrook Common to Wood Farm in the 1920s, where Alister MacKenzie's design opened in 1927. Dye Thomas, club historian, told the Cookie Jar Golf Podcast (Ep. 203, Jun 2023): "When the club in Worcestershire was founded, if you wanted a proper game at a proper club, you would have had to go to Royal Liverpool at Hoylake or Royal North Devon at Westward Ho. That's quite a journey."
Thomas also noted: "One of the very first books published about golf courses in Britain was done by Horace Hutchinson in the early eighteen nineties – and the course at the Worcestershire is one of 40 or so courses mentioned in it." Matthew Allen, one of five Allen brothers from Westward Ho originally from Prestwick, started the club as nine holes on the common; Ben Sayers of North Berwick fame left his mark. Hawtree restored the course after WWII; the club is a member of the Alister MacKenzie Society.
