Thorndon Park Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Essex. The club was first formed in 1920.
Thorndon Park Golf Club's course was established in 1920 on a historic deer park that dates back to the 1580s. The course features ancient oaks from the 16th century and additional plantings from the 1730s by the eighth Lord Petre, a recognized botanist.
The grounds where the course now lies were once part of an estate with a Palladian mansion designed by James Paine, and Lancelot "Capability" Brown, a notable landscape designer, worked on the park. The course's designer was Harry Colt, a renowned golf course architect, and it opened for play on 1 July 1920.
World War II and Green Belt laws impeded the development of a planned residential estate on the golf course site. Despite this, the course was successfully established and has continued to operate.
After leasing the East Wing of Thorndon Hall in 1921, the Club eventually acquired the surrounding 240 acres and the hall itself in 1968. A new clubhouse was built in 1974, leading to the sale of Thorndon Hall, which was then converted into apartments.
